In the world the second most populated country is India. With nearly a 5th of the world's population. According to the 2017 revision of the World Population Prospects, the population stood at 1,324,171,354 crores. In 2024 India will be the most populous country in the world, surpassing the population of China and Its population growth rate is 1.13%. India has more than 50% under age 25 and 65% under age 35.

World Population Percentage

 In 2011 according to census India's population was 1,21,08.54.977 in which population of males were 62,32,70,258 (51.47% of total population) and females were 56,75,84,719 (48.53% of total population). The ratio of females and males was 943:1000 (2011) and in 2016 it became 944:1000. This increasing ratio has been showing an upward trend in the last decades.

 

Reasons for the increasing population 

There is a lot of reason for increasing population nowadays. Some of them are as follow:-
⦁    lack of education, lack of awareness about sex, Desire for Boy child.
⦁    inequality between Boys and Girls, the Birth rate is still higher than the rate of death.
⦁    Old believes among people that promote population.
⦁    illegal immigration from Bangladesh, Nepal sides.
⦁    poverty is another reason for the increasing population. Thoughts of impoverished families are more the number of members in the family more will be the income.
⦁    The ambition of a big family, betterment in the economy of family, joint family system, etc.
⦁    The child marriage system is another reason for overpopulation. In India, more than 80% of Girls got married before a young age between 15-18.
⦁    Polygamy is also a reason for overpopulation. In the old tradition, if they didn't get a boy child then they go for another marriage, infertility also a reason of multi-marriage.
⦁    Due to a lack of social security - if a family has a child whether this is would be son or daughter. In the fear of death their child at childhood therefore, they give birth too many children.

Problems Due to overpopulation

Due to Overpopulation, People have to face several problems and some of them are:-

Unemployment

⦁    Unemployment - This is the major problem facing people. Overpopulation rise the rate of crime and corruption among people to feed their family and provide basic needs

⦁    High Cost of Living - Due to the overpopulation demand for commodities like food, shelter and basic needs and also raise its prices. And they have to pay more to survive and feed their families.

⦁    Depletion of Natural resources - As the population increasing natural resources reducing. Overpopulation needs more space to survive like land, houses, etc. Due to overpopulation, forest cutting more to make a house and this way natural resources depleting. The Earth can produce a limited amount of water and food which falling short according to the current need.

Poverty

⦁    Poverty - It is the most common problem in India due to overpopulation. As the population increase unemployment also increases. Due to unemployment poverty rise furiously. Poverty increase with an increase in unemployment and unemployment increase with the increase in population.

 

Steps to Control Overpopulation

Overpopulation must be control otherwise unemployment and poverty will be on peak and it will affect the Economy of India. There are several factors on which overpopulation depends and many problems arise due to population. If some steps are taken to control the population then problems can be reduced. some of them are:-

⦁    Education - Better education can help to control overpopulation. Overpopulation mainly arises due to illiteracy.

⦁    Family Planning - Make aware people about the benefits of a small family. One of the best way o let them know about safe sex techniques.

⦁    Knowledge of Sex education - At the elementary level, sex education should be a must for young kids. Most parents feel shy about discussing sex with their kids.
